Autumn Reads

Outside, a magnificent transformation is taking place as leaves change colour, drift through the air and fall to become earth again. Autumn truly brings a feeling of slowing down, release and letting go.

I see this season as a reminder that reading, listening and observing are integral parts of the creative process, so I wanted to share an autumnal reading list filled with poetry, fiction and books on food, nature and creativity. All reflect both the season’s beauty and its invitation to turn inward.

Recommended reads for autumn

“The act of accessing joy is a muscle to strengthen. There have to be things that we are happy about today, even if they are small… so, begin practicing your awareness of the small things. Thoughts are magnetic.” Yrsa Daley-Ward’s ‘The How’ is an inspiring, lyrical read filled with empathy, ideas and writing prompts.

Writing with the Seasons is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Tap into creativity this autumn! Join me for workshops at Write & Shine on mist, deer and the autumn’s full, bright moons. This season, we’ll also consider creative rituals, looking in particular to women writers and artists. Explore the programme.
