Welcome to ‘Writing with the Seasons,’ a collection of writing prompts, ideas and inspiration that follow the rhythms of the natural world as the year unfolds.


My little niece told me proudly that the highlight of her summer holiday has been all the library books she’s read. She picked them herself, and the stories include time-travel escapades and one about an owl that’s also a robot. The best part, she said, is she’s almost completed the Summer Reading Challenge, a programme many libraries host. Each participant receives stickers for finishing at least six library books.

What joy! I thought. She loves reading! Hooray for libraries!

Growing up, my favourite activity was visiting the mobile library.
