Welcome to ‘Writing with the Seasons,’ a collection of writing prompts, ideas and inspiration that follow the rhythms of the natural world as the year unfolds. We’re in our second year now! Thanks so much for joining me on this journey, month by month.


If months were literary genres, I’d say February was autofiction. A hybrid, not quite one thing, not quite another. Fiction mixed with autobiography, the remembered and the invented. Ordinary life and imagination combined. That’s February. Sleeping deeply, waking up in darkness asking ourselves: are we still dreaming? 

February, with slow and grey days, also has momentum in its gentle movement towards spring. Pink morning skies that surprise and delight. Cool light through the kitchen window, and delicate, tuneful robin song.
