In the dark mornings, I’ve created a new ritual: reading poetry and sometimes fiction by lamplight as the sun rises. It’s a gentle way to start the day before I write. I love the feeling of timelessness, of my mind focusing, heart opening and ideas shaping while the day slowly begins.
I was inspired by Julia Cameron, author of ‘The Artist’s Way,’ who talks about how we can create inner space for our creativity. It’s not only the external space and time we need, but a sense of freedom inside ourselves. ‘To be creative you need to roam around in your ideas, to ask questions of yourself and not be too rigid in your approach,’ she says.
